How True

On the advice of my friend from college Briana I downloaded the book Life of Pi to my Kindle. I have been reading it bit by bit over the past week and a few days. I am at a part in the book where the main character Pi is coming to grips with the fact that everyone in his immediate family has perished when the boat they were taking to Canada from India sinks. Pi finds himself on a lifeboat with an orangutan named Orange Juice, a zebra, a hyena, and a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. After a few nights he thinks about each member of his family. His brother, his mother, and his father. His thoughts about his father which are penned in the book are spot on in my opinion.

To lose your father is to lose the one whose guidance and help you seek, who supports you like a tree trunk supports its branches.

How true is that statement. I would frequently seek guidance and help from my dad. As I read this portion of the book I couldn't help but think of the post I wrote just a day or two ago about a random moment of grief in my day. I am grateful to have a Heavenly Father who I can go to for guidance, wisdom, and help in all circumstances in life. I also am extremely grateful for my father-in-law Andy. My mom commented while we were painting/priming our kitchen this afternoon "I am glad you have good in-laws Chad" to which I replied "me too". I hope that when Nicole and I start a family down the road that I can be supportive of my children like a tree trunk which supports its branches.
