I popped in a sermon on Revelation chapters 6-16 by David Hocking today and was thrilled that he read every verse from those chapters in his sermon. So often we can skim over God's Word (forgetting that all of it is profitable...see 2 Timothy 3:16-17) and think that our thoughts on His Word are more important. How shameful! David Hocking talked in a different sermon how he was a scheduled speaker at a Bible conference and he was the last speaker and everyone had gone over on their time, so he only had 20 minutes to do his sermon. The leader of the conference told David to just skip the good parts of his sermon where he talked about his viewpoints on the scriptures. David responded by just reading from the Bible for 20 minutes because his reasoning was that the Bible was the most important part of his sermon, not his thoughts on the Bible. This is yet another reason why I consider David Hocking to be one of the best Bible teachers today. His quote "We need to read the Bible, the whole Bible, and nothing but the Bible" is one of my favorite quotes.
I enjoyed the Wed night study too.....it was good and had great application. We should go again sometime....not during Pastor Brian's Revelation study of course :)
