John 3:16

It has been fairly shocking to me that over the past few months I have encountered so many people that have never heard John 3:16 while we are out doing our Friday night P.I.E outreach. We are living in an increasingly God ignorant culture. People are being raised with no knowledge of the Bible or what God as done for them. This is in America. This is not in a remote tribe in the heart of the amazon. Since we returned from East Asia I have made it a point to ask people "Can you tell me the Gospel?", "Have you ever truly understood the Gospel?", and I will quote them John 3:16 and ask them if they have ever heard it. A shocking number of people have never heard this famous verse. I have only had one person describe the Gospel accurately to me out of the multitude of people I have asked (and this person left out that part of the Gospel is not just that Jesus died for our sins, but that He rose again on the 3rd day after being buried in a tomb).

So the question becomes what are we going to do about this? Are we going to keep passing the buck to someone else? Or are we going to fulfill our mandate to be minsters of reconciliation through the verbal sharing of the Gospel? I hope that if you have read this far that you are regularly sharing your faith and praying that God would open doors for you to share with the people He has placed within your sphere of influence. If you don't regularly share your faith remember that memorizing a few simple verses can go a long way toward planting the seed of the gospel in someone's life. Let's not sit by and let people die without hearing verses like John 3:16!
