As I type this my school has 10 official days left in the school year. What a quick school year this was! It seems like just yesterday that the school year was beginning. This wasn't the most challenging school year to get through, but it still had a few challenges. I am thankful that God gave me my job! Praise Him for getting me through the school year and keeping me employed when so many are unemployed or under-employed.
On Saturday of this past weekend Nicole and I went to the Orange County swap meet on Saturday morning/afternoon. I got a new pair of black corduroy shorts, we bought some cheap vegetables, and got some freshly baked bread. The swap meet is the only place that sells corduroy shorts still. You can't find them at a normal department store like Kohl's (and even if they do happen to have something corduroy it usually isn't a good type of corduroy). Afterwards we drove to the Circle of Orange to eat Pastrami burritos at a place that Nicole's parents told us about. When Nicole and I were first married I thought it was weird that her family at Pastrami burritos. I enjoyed eating Pastrami sandwiches, but a Pastrami burrito just sounded weird. Essentially though a Pastrami burrito is the same as a Pastrami sandwich. The only difference is that instead of a thick bun it is wrapped in a flour tortilla. Nicole's family got me hooked on eating Pastrami burritos and the burritos were mighty tasty to say the least! That night we were lazy. In fact, I didn't feel very well (I battled a headache all afternoon and it sapped the life out of me!) and ended up falling asleep while we were watching a movie and being in bed quite early for a Saturday night.
Sunday morning we drove up to Big Bear to spend the day with my family at my mom's house up there. We were treated to a wonderful sermon at the First Baptist Church of Big Bear Lake. The sermon was on Luke 16 (The rich man and Lazarus). What a great reminder to share the gospel with lost humanity so they do not end up like the rich man in Hades wanting people to share the gospel with his family members who were still alive so they would not join him in torment. After church we ate at a burger place called "Get the Burger". I thought it was fantastic, but Nicole's cheeseburger (her single cheeseburger got switched with my nephew's children's cheeseburger) had a vein in it and didn't taste good to her (which stinks, because I really liked it and she probably won't ever want to go back there again...and I don't blame her for that...a vein in your burger is nasty!). After lunch we lounged around the house and heard some noise outside and when we walked outside we discovered that it was snowing! I couldn't believe that only a few days from May it was snowing outside. It didn't last very long and it was only melting when it hit the ground, but it was cool to run outside for a few minutes amidst the falling snow. Our grill didn't have enough propane left to properly cook the meat we had for dinner, so we had to use the George Foreman grill (which isn't the same as open flame grilling). The food was still pretty good. After a rousing game of Uno we headed back down the hill, because we thought we were going to Disneyland with our friend on Monday. When we got home we discovered that my friend wanted to cancel our plans to go to Disneyland. So, we could have stayed in the mountains longer than we did. Oh well. What can you do?
Monday we had waffles for breakfast before heading to the Victoria Gardens to do some shopping and eat lunch (we ate at Wahoo's Fish Tacos for lunch). My favorite part was playing with the iPad 2's at the Apple store. It was crowded in there! I am hoping to buy an iPad 2 before we leave for our trip. I don't know if that is possible or not though. We shall see. Nicole got a new pair of sandals that were more dressy than some of the other pairs she has, so that she can wear them if we go to a nice dinner on our upcoming vacation. On the way home we stopped at the Riverside National Cemetery. It was neat to see nearly every headstone with an American flag on it. I am grateful for the men and women who sacrificed their lives for our country. Praise the Lord for their bravery! We wrapped the night off with a movie and some dinner.
Now on to the work week!
