Last year on May 2nd my father died. My stomach/intestines have been going haywire over the past 24 hours leaving me feeling ill. I think my grief (it seems like I am back to square one) is the culprit behind my stomach issues. Grief is a weird thing. It seems that every time something comes up it triggers the feelings of sorrow (every month on the 2nd, the first Christmas without him, the first birthday without him, the first Easter without him, etc...) but today it feels more intensified. My mom shared this scripture with me this morning. It encouraged me and comforted me as I feel sorry for myself (not having my dad with me any longer).
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
4who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
God will continue to comfort me in my grief. I decided to read one of my dad's favorite portions of scripture this morning in honor of him and it too comforted me.
John 14:1-6
1"Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me.
2"In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.
3"If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.
4"And you know the way where I am going."
5Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?"
6Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
