This past Friday I had the opportunity to speak to two young men named Jason and Santana about their worldview. Jason claimed to believe in reincarnation while Santana nodded his head in agreement. Jason said that if a person lives a good life they get to come back, reincarnated, and live again. I gently told him that his worldview is in conflict with the message of the Bible. He asked me to explain, so I had both of the young men go through the "Good Person Test". They admitted to lying, stealing, looking with lust (meaning they've committed adultery of the heart), and hating other people. I asked them how they thought God would judge them ("Do you think God would find you innocent in His court of law or guilty in His court of law?") and they thought they'd be innocent and go to heaven. So even though they'd been confronted with God's Law (the 10 commandments) which showed that they'd broken every law we discussed, they still thought they were heaven worthy.
This is actually quite common among people I speak with about the Gospel. Most of us think of ourselves as being "better than" most of the people in our lives. So if we are better than most people that should be good enough for God.
The problem with this line of thinking is that we aren't comparing ourselves to God's standards. We are comparing ourselves to other people (who are by their deeds "law breakers" as well).
We need to see our predicament, that if we die in our sins we will be judged and sent to hell (see 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Revelation 20:15, and Revelation 21:8), before the good news that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the 3rd day actually becomes good news (1 Corinthians 15:3-7) to us.
We must repent and believe the gospel (Mark 1:15), so that we can become born again (John 3:3) by the grace of God (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Here is a short video by Mark Spence of the "Living Waters" staff which explains and exposes reincarnation for what it is - a faulty belief system.
